I would say that the ProFlightSimulator software is one, if not the most realistic simulation software I have used (and trust me, I’ve used them all)! Everything has be covered – from the terrain, to how the aircraft reacts and they have even made the planetary alignments and movements realistic.
Lots to Choose From
There are plenty of pre selected maps and aircraft to choose from. I was impressed that there was over 20,000 airports to choose from (think how many combinations that is)! You can also choose from over 120 planes, from MIG to Concords and F16s to airliners. You can even make the first flight there ever was – using the 1903 Wright Flyer piloted by the Wright Brothers.
Accurate Mapping and Weather
This was really impressive! The game includes real time weather simulation, so if it is raining in New York in real life, then it will be raining in New York in the game.
Multiplayer Options
Sometimes its good to use the simulators with your friends. What was great about ProFlightSimulator is that the online component has been well thought out. The two best features of the online mode for me were the formation flying and online chat. That way, on long flights you can chat to your friends and find out where they are flying, and what the weather is like!

There are so many airports and aircraft that at first it may be a too much for some people. However, things are organized really well so you will be able to find everything that you want pretty easily.
Simulator, Not Arcade!
Personally I see this as more of a benefit, but some of you may prefer an ‘arcade’ style simulator. Before you can really appreciate a flight simulator, you need to get a hang of the controls. If you don’t want to learn how to use them and want a game you can play, rather and an experience then an arcade game may be better for you. However, if you want to learn to use the controls in a realistic environment then many hours of fun await you!
